Puppy and dog-care could be the topic of an entire web-site. It is also a very personal subject like child-rearing - everyone has their own ideas and methods. These pages are just a brief overview of our ideas on the topic and not intended as a definite guide.

Overview |
|
| Natural Remedies |
Its worth reading up on natural remedies for dogs - homeopathy and herbs etc |
| Worming |
Initial worming routine for pups is every 2 weeks, thereafter 4 times a year. |
| Food |
We recommend Eukanuba and Hills Science and Pedigree Chum Puppy |
| Flea treatment |
Puppies are treated with Frontline but we recommend Stronghold thereafter for comprehensive protection - fleas, ear mites and mange. |
| Vaccinations |
We use Nobivac DHPPI & Lepto. Pups should have some protection before they leave breeder, and need second vaccine thereafter. Parvo can kill a puppy in 2 days so this is VERY important. They cannot be exposed to dirt until vaccines are complete. |
| Coat grooming |
Grooming page - you will need a brush and possibly clippers/scissors if intending to groom a wool/fleece coat yourself. |
| Insurance |
We use petplan but there are others, click here for more options |
| Puppy/dog books |
Book reviews and lists- adult books and children's books |
Obedience training |
Labradoodles are very clever, start your obedience and sign up for a socialisation class. |
| Crate Training |
We recommend crate training for Labradoodles. |
| Cats and doodles |
Meet doodledogs' cat socialiser - Jesse-Jake and see our kittens . |
| Preparing the house for a puppy |
Stairs, fences - what to think about. |
| Nails |
Nail cutting |
| Teeth cleaning |
How to start good dental hygiene - dont use human toothpaste (!!) |
| Ear care |
Labradoodles are prone to ear problems unfortunately especially if pup has hairy ears! |
| Spay/neutering |
Research early spay/neuter and read about the RSPCA vets article |
| Microchipping |
We microchip all our puppies and register in your name. |
| Travelling with pup |
Dog guards, cages and travelling tips - the RAC range is good. |
| Toys |
We recommend puppy kongs, tuggers, aquatoys, crazy tennis balls and squeaky toys
Petplanet has a huge collection |
| Treats |
Pigs ears and Porkys are usually a hit with doodles.. |
| Leads, Collars and Harnesses |
We use size 1 nylon collars WITHOUT holes for ease, flexibility and comfort. A slip-lead will last from puppy to adulthood and there are some good harnesses available which are particularly useful for the larger (and stronger) doodles. Some click into a car seatbelt.
If looking for something more unusual then try Pucci (my daughters like sparkly pink collars/leads.....) |
| Pet id tags |
All dogs should have a pet id tag on, when leaving the house. Some points to consider. |
| Dog loos and scoopers |
Practically a pro pooper-scooper. So too will you be soon.... |
| Feeding Bowls |
Non-slip and STRONG!! We prefer heavyweight or raised bowls, rather than stainless steel or lightweight. A tray underneath reduces mess. |
| Dog flaps |
Staywell, Plexidor etc. It needs to be the right size and strength. Click here for retailer with 5% off sale. |
| Bedding and Vetbed |
We like VetBed Gold for crates or hard-wearing mattress type beds. |
